Wavin’ The Flag For Haiti
It’s one of the most powerful songs of our times. K’naan’s Wavin’ Flag really is a perfect anthem. It’s about gaining strength and freedom — and about overcoming terrible hardship.
Over 50 of Canada’s best known musicians seem to agree! As cbc.ca news explains, they contributed their voices to Young Artists For Haiti, coming together to record a version of Wavin’ Flag K’naan created specifically to raise funds for people devastated by the earthquake.
It’s pretty awesome, as you’ll hear — the single starts playing on Radio 2 Morning, Shift, and Radio 2 Drive on Friday March 12th. You can also watch a video of Young Artists For Haiti. And most important, you can make your donation through the Young Artists For Haiti Facebook Page.
You’ll find the complete list of musicians on Facebook, but here are just a few of the Canadians who were proud to participate: Justin Bieber, (sings that sweet bit at the end), Emily Haines, Nelly Furtado, Sam Roberts, Serena Ryder, Jully Black, Broken Social Scene, Nikki Yanofsky, Hawksley Workman…scads of talent coming together for something that really has touched all of us.
Picking out the individual voices is part of the fun of hearing it, but really it’s the collective effort that makes it work.
As producer Bob Ezrin (Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd) says, there was “no ego…just love, passion and a magnificent generosity of spirit.”
